Welcome to thoughtful, organic beauty
Hello Joyous is an organic, plant-based, sustainable beauty brand here to bring more joy to your day.
I fondly remember the first time I ever had spicy hot chocolate -- it was several years ago in the Distillery District (Toronto) and I got it from Soma Chocolatier. Ever since then I fell in love with the combo of cayenne and chocolate. Now that it's getting chilly in Toronto all I want are warm drinks. And since baby Vienna came into our world, I admittedly haven't had time to cook and bake as much. So I'm happy to report that this hot chocolate was so easy to make, I had no excuse! If you've never made hemp milk before then you're in for a real treat because of all the milks I've made this one is definitely the creamiest! So it's definitely worth it to make it yourself for this spicy hot chocolate. You'll also see in my video just how easy it is to make.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE WAY TO SPICE UP HOT CHOCOLATE?!
Can I use hemp powder instead of seeds to make the milk? Thanks!
ReplyHi Gillian, Ground hemp seeds will contain more fiber than just using hemp hearts, so you may need to adjust the hemp/water ratio, but you're welcome to try it out. Kate - Joyous Health Team
Yum! What a great idea Joy, I'm here in the prairies of Canada and I am definitely going to try that because YES it's starting to get chilly here! Also, I loved watching how you made hemp milk - so simple! - Christal, Nutritionist in the Kitch
ReplyJust made this and all I can say is yum! Spicy, aromatic, and creamy. I also melted a couple squares of organic fair trade chocolate in the pot :)
ReplyHey! I have just made this hot chocolate, and this recipe will become a fridge staple. I've got a question, though: when I made the hemp milk (and strained it), the drink has been tasting rather bitter and, well, plant-y. I've experienced this when I've made hemp milk from scratch. I added some more maple syrup and a little almond butter when heating it in the pot, which seems to help some with that plant-y taste. Have you ever experienced any slight bitterness? Thanks! Natassia
ReplyHi Natassia, Were you using whole hemp seeds, or just the hemp hearts? Kate - Joyous Health Team
Oooh....I love Soma! Best chocolate I have ever tasted!
ReplyHow long can you store hemp milk for, if I were to just make a single serving of the hot chocolate? (I wish I wasn't almost out of hemp seed - I want to try this right now!)
Reply4-5 days in the fridge. It's so yummy! You'll love it :)
Coul I put this recipe in a milk brother?
ReplyHey Glori, Yes I'm sure that would be delicious! Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Dear Joy, I was wondering if there were any store bought brands of coconut, seed, or oat milk that you like that doesn’t have added vitamins to it? Sometimes time doesn’t allow for me to make my own... which brands would you buy...if any? Thanks!
ReplySome decent brands are Earth's Own, So Delicious and Silk. I also like Mylko because it's so pure but it's not cheap - $10 for a litre.
