This Sunday is Mama’s Day and just like I do every year I have put together a nourishing, delicious and flavourful menu for you to treat that special lady in your life.

I’ve kept things pretty simple recipe-wise so that you don’t need to buy a ton of new ingredients you might not have in your kitchen pantry already… that is… assuming you regularly make recipes from Joyous Health ;)

Uber Creamy Raspberry Avocado Smoothie Shot

Let’s start off with the super popular creamy raspberry avocado smoothie. Since this is an appetizer you can follow the recipe but serve it in 2oz shot glasses. Depending how many guests you are hosting, you will get 8-10 shot glasses worth of this deliciousness! Top each shot glass with a fresh mint leaf for garnish.

Guacamole Deviled Eggs

This was a mama’s day fave in my family because my maternal grandma often made deviled eggs at family get togethers. However, I kicked these up a notch and combined my famous power guac recipe from my book Joyous Health for a non-traditional and healthier take on deviled eggs. Get the recipe for Guacamole Deviled Eggs.

Chopped Kale & Beet Salad (recipe video)

This salad is fresh, crunchy and light making it the perfect salad. If you’re mama’s not a health nut she’ll have no clue how good it is for her. And we all want our mama’s to live as long and healthfully as possible so this Chopped Kale and Beet Salad is a sure winner.

By the way, if you are not sure how to tame the treebark-like texture of kale, then definitely watch the video to learn how to make kale tasty!

Quickie Quinoa Bowl or Salmon Cakes

If you make a big batch of quinoa ahead of time then the prep on this will be super duper easy! I make this Quickie Quinoa Bowlall the time, not just for special occasions. Struggle with getting perfectly fluffy quinoa? Watch my video to learn how to master this gluten-free pseudo-grain.

The salmon cakes are a Ma McCarthy specialty and a lovely addition to this menu. I suggest making them mini-cakes just for fun! You could also make these the day before and then refrigerate them. They would go really nicely with a lemon tahini sauce too – just combine fresh lemon juice, tahini and give it a whirl.

Carrot Cake Balls or Carrot Cake Squares with Lemon Icing

You simply cannot go wrong with my no-bake carrot cake balls - they are a Joyous Health reader fave! I make these all the time and they are always a hit at every family gathering! I suggest you make them ahead and freeze them. They are fantastic with a scoop of your favourite vanilla plant-based protein powder too and you don’t have to modify the ingredients at all. Want to try something slightly different? Try my Carrot Cake Squares with Lemon Icing.

Two-Bite Chocolate Chip Balls

This one is for the chocolate lovers. These Two Bite Chocolate Chip Balls are no-bake and you can whip them up in a snap!

And last but certainly not least because it's rhubarb season so here's my Rhubarb Crisp recipe.

If you’re looking for more recipes check out my post from last year. Also, I filmed a short little video while on Vancouver island for Mama's Day. You can watch it below:

Happy Mama’s Day to all the mamas and joyous health to you!
