Welcome to thoughtful, organic beauty
Hello Joyous is an organic, plant-based, sustainable beauty brand here to bring more joy to your day.
This smoothie is a creation of my hubby, Walker -- and if you know him, you know this has his name written all over it. Back in the day when he worked at a gym as a personal trainer he would make this smoothie with his buddy Richie. They created it to have something energizing that kept them fuelled for hours on end.
You can watch the recipe video here or scroll down to the bottom for the printable recipe card.
So that's your warning that this is not a smoothie to make later in the day. This is a great morning smoothie!
We've named it the Double Chocolate Espresso Smoothie which is true to its name because there is both chocolate protein powder and raw cacao powder, plus a shot of espresso. The ingredients are simple, whole and healthy.
You can definitely use decaf if you don't drink caffeinated beverages. Also, if you don't have an espresso machine, then coffee will work too.
This double chocolate espresso smoothie tastes as good as it looks. It's also super energizing from both the espresso and the raw cacao powder. Walker added the oat flakes to make it more meaty but if you don't eat any grains, simple omit.
It is totally plant-based, rich in protein, good fat and fulfilling. It will definitely give you a good boost of energy.
The protein powder we used is Genuine Health's fermented, organic and plant-based chocolate flavour. It does not make you bloated AT ALL - which is a big deal when it comes to protein powders.
*As per my video, you do not need to use 2 bananas.
**If you do not have an espresso machine, you can use coffee instead.
Serves 1 generously.
Walker and I shared this but if you're just making it for yourself it is a generous portion.
Enjoy!
Joy xo
Very filling and sooooo good!🙏
ReplyGlad you love it too!
Hi! Sounds tasty! How much oats? I love espresso!
Reply1/2 cup. It's fixed now sorry about the confusion!
Should that be 1/2 cup of oat flakes?
ReplyYes exactly! It's fixed now sorry about the confusion!
1/2 oat flakes... is that 1/2 cup?
ReplyYes exactly! It's fixed now sorry about the confusion!
Thx for the recipe! Will definitely try. One question...is it 1/2 cup of oats? It doesn’t specify above, just says “1/2”
ReplyThanks for catching that! I've updated the recipe. It's 1/2 cup.
Hi Cuties, MMM, great! I am going to make this before my next morning walk. It looks delicious and very healthy. Chocolate, banana and coffee, heaven. Keep posting these fun inspiring videos. You two are the perfect blend, love, spicy and sweet.
ReplyHi!! Hope you loved it!! Very energizing :)
How much coffee would you sub in?
Reply1.5-2 ounces. Enjoy!
I would call this “ gettinG on the go” smoothie.
ReplyLove that!
Super delicious! I need to change my protein powder out, so I plan on purchasing from Genuine Health after I use up the rest of my protein powder.
ReplyAwesome, enjoy!!
Used Dandy Blend (Instant Herbal alternative with Dandelion) instead of coffee and it turned out delicious. Also added 1 tangerine for some"orange" flavour since I love orange and chocolate combo. Used only 1 frozen banana and 1/4C oats (instead of 1/2) since I was only making 1 serving for me. :) Really yummy and so filling.
ReplySounds awesome!
I use dandy blend for mine too! Comes out delicious.
Perfect, that sounds delicious!!
It looks delicious! Do you know the calorie count please?
ReplyI do not, but you could put the info into an app like my fitness pal to see!
